So, now you have your 4-year college degree and are interested in traveling abroad and to fund your trip you want to get certified to teach English abroad. Many people want to know if there is are a many courses required to obtain the certification. It actually depends somewhat on which country you want to teach English. The Asian countries are more relaxed on certifications than Europe due to their greater need for native English speaking teachers. Some institutions will accept you without any type of certification at all.  As an example, the bigger schools in Japan have no requirement to be certified. The course time depends on which type of certification you are going to want. The TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) courses are not the same in length because it’s not a fixed certification, different schools will simply have different lengths and so forth. However, if time is a concern, the TEFL or TESOL certification can be completed either in a classroom environment or online; it really depends on where you want to do it. The fee will also be different from school to school. An excellent illustration, one can get your TESOL certification for $199 if you enroll in a 50-hour certification program or you can choose a $1,000, 120 hour certification. You just need to look for something less costly and that you feel provides value to you so you can effectively teach. Most people who have done it state, if you’re serious about it you should enroll in a course that has at least 100 hours to be effective.  Another certification, known as CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults), is provided by the University of Cambridge and has additional hourly requirements. It’s a 4-week full-time classroom environment with at least 120 classroom hours and six hours minimum teaching. The certifications with the most dignififed status are:  CELTA and TESOL. Each of these programs are a minimum of 120 hours, normally more, plus 6 hours of supervised instruction. Both of these programs are seen as equals, so you can’t go wrong if you obtain either one. There is one thing people often make a mistake with and that is the term, “TOEFL”.  TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is simply an exam you take to certify that you can in fact speak English, not a course you become certified in. The term TOEFL not a certification. It is a Test of English as a Foreign Language for non-native speakers of English. It is commonly used as a guideline about if the non-native english speakers should be admitted to English-speaking universities.People have a few different choices such as universities, colleges or language schools that offer a month long course, which is a good route. It typically includes a few hours daily and finishes with you instruct a mock class. The prices vary for this but do not be surprised to see it range from five-hundred to two thousand dollars.Another choice is an intensive weekend course, which is much cheaper and obviously does not go into everything a 30 day program does. This program is normally given at the very saTOEFL is the Test of English as a Foreign Language. This is a test for non-native speakers of English. It is often used to make decisions about whether non-native speakers should be admitted to English-speaking universities.me language schools that have month long courses.  The one you choose will defintiely help you in your cultural journey whether it is in Japan, China, Spain, Chile, Lima, Peru or Brazil. Have a good trip and wonderful experience.
