Is there any way to beat the insane admissions process and high cost of sending your child to a top US University?According to one admissions counselor, Dr. Robert Clyne, who ran a highly successful college admissions counseling service, there is. “College admission is just crazy nowadays. My clients spend up to 30,000 dollars in preparation expenses trying to get into a top school and some still don’t get admitted. Clients sometimes spend 10,000 dollars just in test preparation from classes to private tutoring.“In today’s highly uncertain economy it is harder and harder to justify this super-expensive, super-time consuming admission process, particularly if you are not a native speaker of English and need to take TOEFL. Getting high grades, gaining a leadership position in extracurricular activities, and achieving high test scores on up to four different tests is often too demanding.. Sometimes each of these tests need to be taken several times just to get into a top American college. Is the American college degree from a top school worth it? Is the admissions help to get in really worth the money.“My new system is inexpensive and pretty much allows everyone a chance to attend a top US university if they are willing to do the work. The do not need high grades in high school, any extracurricular activities, and a very modest TOEFL score is sufficient. They definitely don’t need expensive admissions counselors. For about one tenth of the average price paid for… [Read More...]

It’s important to adopt an effective preparation routine to ace your TOEFL test. You are advised to read a wide range of books, take plenty of online practice tests, learn to converse in English proficiently, and so on. But before you start cramming for the test, it’s important to know the structure of TOEFL and to find out how test takers are being evaluated. Once you know what to expect and what is expected of you, you will find it easier to prepare for the exams. 1) Structure of the reading section You will be given three to five reading passages in the reading section followed by a list of comprehension questions regarding the passages. Be prepared that some of these questions require you to fill out a table or complete a narrative summary. Test takers are expected to show that they understand what the question requires of them and that they know how to analyse the meaning of the passages. 2) Structure of the listening section The listening section consists of two to three conversations that take place between two or more speakers. You will be allowed to take notes while listening. This section aims to test your ability to understand the speakers’ attitude and meaning. 3) Structure of the writing section The writing section is made up of two parts. The first is the reading/listening/writing task. There will be an academic reading followed by a lecture. You will then be required… [Read More...]

TOEFL, or the Test of English as a Foreign Language, is a test that measures your ability to speak, read, and write in English at a college or university level. This test is one of the best measures of whether or not you are ready to attend college at an English-speaking school. Even though you may think that you speak and write English well, doing so on the college level is entirely different, especially if you have learned it as a foreign language. What Is Contained in the TOEFL? The test is either Internet-based or paper-based. Both test the same things, but in a slightly different format. These assessments test your ability to read, listen to, speak, and write English. You will be asked to read passages and then answer questions on them. You will also be asked to listen to a lecture that is a college-level lecture, followed by more questions. A few tasks will require a verbal answer, and you will be asked to write two passages. The lectures, reading passages, and questions are all designed to reflect the types of tasks you would be asked to perform at the college level. Who Needs the TOEFL? Students who wish to attend an English speaking university or college but have learned English as a foreign language should take the TOEFL before applying to their chosen school. Many schools require the scores from this test for admission. Even if your school does not… [Read More...]

You have spent many hours learning English, whether for your work or school situation. Now you need to prove that you do, in fact, know the language as well as you need to for the program you are entering. How can you do this? You can prove your knowledge of the language by taking a test. Two of the most popular are the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). While these two tests have a similar goal – to show that you know English – they are different in many ways. Difference in Intent One difference in the two tests is in the intent. The main intent of the TOEFL is to determine whether or not the test taker can speak, read, understand, and write English well enough to attend college in an English-speaking program. The questions, reading material, and listening material are all designed on a college level. While there is one version of the IELTS that is designed for college applicants, the Academic Version, the IELTS also comes in a General Training Version. This is used for those who are looking to head to an English-speaking country for work or immigration. Many companies who are looking to hire non-native English speakers need to know that their employees can speak and understand English, and they require a test to show this. Also, Australia and Canada require those who are immigrating to their… [Read More...]

Courses can be Grade Level Specific ? 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th.  Also, vocabulary is geared toward Standardized Test Prep ? SAT, ACT, GRE – as well as ESL, both Intermediate and Advanced. While many of VerbaLearn’s TOEFL and ESL students currently reside in the U.S., it is seeing a greater demand for its service overseas, especially in Asia, and most notably in India. TOEFL(Test Of English as a Foreign Language) is conducting to assess the English fluency of the students from non-English speaking countries to get admission in the foreign universities. The test evaluates the reading, writing, listening and speaking abilities of the test-taker. The TOEFL exam is relied by over 6000 universities, colleges, business and professional schools of around 140 countries. The test is conducted by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), which is a registered trademark for the test administered since 1964. It keeps the provision of sending the test scores to four universities of the student’s choice. In India, the fee for TOEFL test is US$165, which includes the cost of the score report and four score recipient universities cost. TOEFL-iBT for Indian Students: TOEFL-iBT (Internet Based Test) was launched in the year 2005 and was commenced from 2006 in India. It is intended to restore the precious two versions of the test and is gradually becoming available worldwide. In India, TOEFL is offered as an Internet-based Test, which is a linear and not a computer adaptive test. Here the test takers will answer all the questions from the same range of difficulty, rather than receiving questions based on their ability levels. In a TOEFL iBT, students have to take an online test directly from the ETS test centers. There will be approximately 45 test sessions a year, usually on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. TOEFL-iBT is an integration of assessing four different skills for… [Read More...]

TOEFL (Test of English as a foreign language) like IELTS is a test to evaluate a student’s English speaking skills. It is a standard test to measure a student’s English fluency in order to communicate with his/her peers when he/she enters the academic set up of the university. Unlike GRE, TOEFL is not a computer adaptive test. The TOEFL consists of four sections- Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. The total score is out of 120. Every university has a minimum score requirement in order to admit a student to a particular program. Some universities even have sectional cut-offs for certain programs. It is very crucial that students score very well in TOEFL as a high score in TOEFL helps students get into good universities abroad.SpeakingIt is observed that many students have a major problem in the speaking section. For students who are not fluent in English speaking, practice well in advance. It is essential to speak clearly with minimum of grammatical errors. So, it is ok to speak slowly but correctly. However, do try to complete your response within the time frame so as not to lose your points. Conversing with friends in English will definitely help. Over a period of time, you will see a difference in yourself. However, it is best to have good professional coaching to really do well.ListeningIn this section you have to listen to a set of dialogues and answer the questions based on them.
