Verbalearn Sees TOEFL Prep As Growth Area In 2010

Acton, MA–A growing demand in Asia for ESL is driving VerbaLearn’s 2010 marketing strategies, says CEO James Potter. “Across South Asia and the Philippines,” he says, “we’re seeing a huge demand among students to acquire English skills through affordable means, which makes our free online service attractive.” A Fall 2009 survey by the Institute of International Education suggests that “both new and overall international student enrollments are likely to continue to grow…The major reasons for the reported increases appear to be largely related to continued active recruitment efforts (cited by 28% of responding institutions), the growing reputation and visibility of U.S. campuses abroad (26%), and an increased number of linkages with institutions in other countries.” The VerbaLearn online system offers many vocabulary-enhancing courses, allowing teachers, parents and students to choose the course that bests fits their learning needs. Courses can be Grade Level Specific ? 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th.  Also, vocabulary is geared toward Standardized Test Prep ? SAT, ACT, GRE – as well as ESL, both Intermediate and Advanced.

While many of VerbaLearn’s TOEFL and ESL students currently reside in the U.S., it is seeing a greater demand for its service overseas, especially in Asia, and most notably in India. Since Verbalearn is web-based, there’s nothing to install or maintain. Teachers and their students access Verbalearn’s remote server just like they would any other website. (After sign-up, teachers receive a list of access codes to distribute to their students.)

Verbalearn’s CTO, Nathan Barr, says, “This demographic trend is driving both our tech innovation and market out reach strategy. We’re obsessed with delivering vocabulary excellence abroad.”
